Another target of this policy was the Pantheon of Heroes of Stepanakert, dedicated to the heroes who became martyrs in the name of the Motherland in occupied Artsakh, Hovik Avanesov Ombudsman of Culture of Hayk public organization, expert on Caucasus warns.
"Information about this is disseminated through Azerbaijani Telegram channels," Avanesov reports.
The expert recalls that according to Article 4 of the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property during Armed Conflict, any acts of vandalism, theft, robbery, appropriation, hostility or reprisal against cultural heritage are prohibited. The First Hague Protocol of 1954 also prohibits the destruction of cultural or spiritual property in occupied territories.
"This fact once again proves that the entire cultural heritage of Artsakh is under threat," he summarizes.
