ArmInfo.The authorities of Kazakhstan will not act as mediator in the negotiations, when organizing a meeting in Almaty between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov. Official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Aibek Smadiyarov announced at a briefing.
"We are planning such negotiations in Almaty. We are now in touch with our Azerbaijani and Armenian partners. The upcoming negotiations will be held exclusively between the parties. I want to note that we are not talking about Astana's mediation, we are only providing goodwill services, the so-called good offices," Smadiyarov said, TASS reports.
The Foreign Ministry representative recalled that during his recent visits to Azerbaijan and Armenia, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted the importance of establishing a strong long-term peace between these countries. Tokayev also announced Kazakhstan's readiness to assist by providing a platform for negotiations between Baku and Yerevan.
Yesterday, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced that a meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan would take place in Almaty soon. The Armenian Foreign Ministry confirmed this information but did not specify the exact date of the upcoming meeting.
