ArmInfo. Armenia's former human rights defender Arman Tatoyan has presented the consequences of the demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in Tavush.
Thus, according to Tatoyan, the village of Kirants will be almost completely surrounded by Azerbaijani troops, like a narrow peninsula, and pastures, gardens and other lands will be under the control or purpose of Azerbaijan.
"Kirants will be deprived of the main road, and the proposed alternative road for the village will be under armed surveillance by Azerbaijan. In addition, the road leading to Acharkut is open to armed surveillance by Azerbaijan.
Certain sections of the Voskepar road come under the control of Azerbaijan. Almost on the border is the Church of St. Astvatsatsin in Voskepar, built in the 7th century. people will not be able to visit the church due to the fact that they are under direct armed target of Azerbaijan.
In Voskepar, Kirants and other villages, civilian houses come under the control of Azerbaijan.
From time to time, Azerbaijani armed forces fire from these positions on the Baganis section of the interstate road in the direction of civilian traffic. In the perspective of the changes announced by the RA government, they are becoming closer to reality.
Moreover, the villages of Azatamut, Kayan, Aygehovit and Vazashen will be cut off from the road and isolated.
There will be no living conditions and no alternative route in Kayana, so it will cease to exist as a populated area.
Due to the closure of the road passing through Kayan, Aygehovit and Vazashen will face serious economic and security problems.
After changing the border in Aygeovit, the village will lose land and pastures," Tatoyan noted, adding that people will no longer have the opportunity to engage in these types of agricultural activities. That is, the village will either disappear or be significantly reduced.
Residents of the border villages of Tavush have been holding protests on the Armenia-Georgia interstate road on the Kiran-Voskepar section since April 19. They oppose the border delimitation option agreed upon by Yerevan and Baku, as a result of which strategic heights will pass to Azerbaijan and Armenian villages will be completely or partially surrounded. Residents of Tavush have been spending the seventh night on the blocked Voskepar-Kirants road.
In addition, actions of disobedience broke out throughout the country demanding an end to unilateral concessions to the enemy. The police are harshly dispersing the protesters.
On April 19, the commissions for demarcation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to begin demarcation of the border from the Tavush region. According to them, the description of these sections of the border line will be drawn up taking into account the clarification of the coordinates that will be obtained as a result of geodetic measurements on site. All this will be documented in the appropriate protocol description, which must be agreed upon and signed between the parties before May 15 of this year.
