ArmInfo.In Moscow, a meeting of the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the CIS  member states chaired by the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and First Deputy Minister of Defense, Army General Valery Gerasimov was held.

According to the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense,  opening the meeting, the chief of the Russian General Staff said that  Western countries are destroying the foundation of strategic  stability.  "Recent developments indicate the consistent destruction  of the fundamental foundations of strategic stability and  international security institutions by the West," said Valery  Gerasimov.

He noted that today's meeting of military leaders of the Commonwealth  countries is taking place against the backdrop of a rapidly changing  military-political situation, which tends to become more complicated.

According to the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed  Forces, not without external influence, hotbeds of tension arise in  various parts of the planet, and international terrorism with the  support of shadow sponsors still remains a global threat to the  world.

"Under these conditions, challenges to the Commonwealth states are  becoming more and more real and diverse, which obliges us to have  well-equipped and trained armed forces," Gerasimov emphasized.

He called it symbolic that today's joint work began with a tour of  the exhibition of modern weapons, military and special equipment used  during a special military operation (an official term used by the  Russian government to denote the war in Ukraine, ed. note).

"I am sure that getting acquainted with the achievements of the  Russian military-industrial complex and promising developments that  are being implemented in the military sphere was interesting and  useful for you," added the chief of the Russian General Staff.

Continuing the meeting, Valery Gerasimov proposed to analyze the  military-political situation developing in the world and on the  borders of the Commonwealth states, discuss issues of building and  developing joint (integrated) military systems in the CIS format,  consider the areas of combat training and field training of troops,  taking into account the experience of conducting combat actions in  modern conditions, as well as discuss other issues of multilateral  military cooperation of mutual interest.

The Chief of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces informed his  colleagues that in the period after the previous meeting, changes had  occurred in the composition of the Committee.

Then Valery Gerasimov introduced the rest of the meeting  participants.
