ArmInfo.Armenia has indeed frozen its relations with the Collective Security Treaty Organizations, Armenian NA Speaker Alen Simonyan stated this in an interview with the Public Television of Armenia, commenting on the statements of the CSTO Secretariat that there was no request from Yerevan.
"So, should we submit a statement that our relations are frozen? Even after the terrorist attack in Moscow, which we all condemned at the official level, we refrained from signing the statement of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, because due to the frozen relations with the Organization, we were not ready for this. There is a political process in which it is impossible to improve relations a little and then freeze them. This does not happen," said the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
He added that Yerevan has frozen its relations "until the situation with the CSTO becomes clear, whether it exists or not, whether it is leaving the region or not." "They didn't even bother to at least call Baku and remind the Azerbaijani authorities that the Azerbaijani troops stationed near the Armenian city of Jermuk are the CSTO's area of responsibility," the head of the Armenian legislative body emphasized.
The speaker noted that the example of Artsakh is an illustrative example of how Turkish troops from the territory of Azerbaijan attacked the positions of Armenian troops against the backdrop of complete inaction on the part of the CSTO. Answering the question that Artsakh was an unrecognized territory, the speaker pointed to the occupation of part of the territory of Armenia, including part of the territories near the settlements of Sev Lich and Jermuk. "All this indicates that there are problems in the CSTO regarding the protection of the territory of Armenia," the speaker emphasized, adding that there are no guarantees from international partners to ensure the security of the Armenian state. "But in any case, it is obvious to us that the CSTO security system does not work and will not work," noted Alen Simonyan.
