ArmInfo. The Yerevan-based International and Comparative Law Center (ICLaw), under the auspices of the Washington-based Armenian Legal Center for Justice and Human Rights (ALC - operates in the Armenian National Committee system), officially presented the cases of eight Armenian servicemen to the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances in early March.
Armenian Legal Center for Justice and Human Rights (ALC) and the Yerevan-based International and Comparative Law Center (ICLaw) According to the Armenian National Committee press service, all cases were presented in close coordination with the families of the above-mentioned servicemen.
It is noted that the mandate of the above-mentioned working group, created by the UN Human Rights Council, includes a thorough investigation of disappearances in order to identify the circumstances of their disappearance, as well as to form a legal basis for bringing those responsible to justice.
"In each of the cases presented, the wounded servicemen were either conscripts or volunteer soldiers Unfortunately, the remains found during search and rescue operations were not identified as the remains of missing persons.
The cases presented are accompanied by numerous testimonies of comrades of the missing persons, which testify to the terrorist and war crimes of the Azerbaijani armed forces.
There is evidence of the selfless behavior of one of the servicemen, who, having given priority to providing medical care to his wounded comrades, refused it and is currently considered missing," the report says.
The ICLaw and the ALC continue their joint efforts towards holding Azerbaijan accountable for war crimes.
During the 44-day war in Artsakh in the fall of 2020 alone, the Armenian side officially lost 3,812 people, 217 citizens are considered missing. Experts say the death toll is much higher.
