ArmInfo. The effectiveness of the EU mission in Armenia (EUMA) raises doubts, since Azerbaijan does not recognize it, said spokesperson of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov.
"The question is what is the subject of observation and whether the mission is recognized by the Azerbaijani side. As far as we understand, it has a negative attitude towards the functions of this mission," he said, RBC reports.
Peskov notes that this agreement is a unilateral decision of Yerevan. "Here, perhaps, it is worth questioning the potential effectiveness of such a mission," the presidential press secretary clarified.
On March 20, the Armenian Parliament ratified an agreement with the European Union on the status of the EU civilian observation mission on the border with Azerbaijan. It will be considered as a representative office with diplomatic status in customs and tax matters. In addition, its composition will be increased from 100 to 209 people.
The mission was deployed in Armenia in February 2023 and is patrolling the Armenian side of the border with Azerbaijan.
