ArmInfo. It is unlikely that intimidating one's own population is the best way to achieve a satisfactory result for Armenia. This was stated on March 20 during a weekly briefing by official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in response to a request to comment on the statement of Armenian Prime Minister that if the Tavush residents do not agree to transfer 4 villages to Azerbaijan, then a new war will break out at the end of the week.
At the same time, she expressed the belief that these issues need to be resolved in a calm, constructive manner. The diplomat recalled that there is a mechanism for this - this is a commission on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
"We are taking part in it taking into account our rich experience of demarcation. We are ready to assist this process taking into account our experience. We are ready to provide all possible assistance in this process. This is the role in which we can be," she repeated.
Zakharova also voiced something in which there is definitely no Russian role. "And now about the role we definitely don't have! We are in no way connected! I will emphasize that no one in our country has anything to do with the decisions that were announced by the leadership of Yerevan as possible ones. What the Prime Minister of Armenia said should in no way be associated with our country. No consultations were held with us; this is exclusively what the Armenian leadership decided on the basis of consultations with the West, EU, NATO and individual countries. This is their area of responsibility," said the Russian diplomat, suggesting to ask Yerevan what tasks it has set.
"But, given that we endlessly hear accusations against Russia, the CSTO after the globally significant decisions made by the leadership of Armenia, I would like those who make decisions in Yerevan to bear responsibility for all their steps under the influence of the West or together with them. This has nothing to do with Russia. And we are constantly trying to convey this to the public and through two-way channels, As well as the unacceptability of endless linking and searching for those responsible for the decisions that are made by Yerevan," Zakharova noted, adding that in this case Moscow is acting proactively, so that later they will not say again that this is because of someone in the CSTO or Russia. "No! This is something we have never had to do with," she concluded.
Earlier, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, during a conversation with residents of border villages, said that if Yerevan does not comply with Baku's demands to transfer a number of border villages to Azerbaijan, then a war will begin. And in case of war, Turkiye will support Azerbaijan.
