ArmInfo.France is the most important political partner of Armenia, according to a new nationwide poll conducted in Armenia by the International Republican Institute's (IRI) Center for Insights in Survey Research(CISR).
61% of respondents named France as the most important political partner of Armenia, 56% pointed to the USA, 47% to Iran, 37% to the EU, 34% to Russia, 31% to China, 27% to Georgia, 6% - to Ukraine, 4% - to Turkey, 2% - to Azerbaijan, another 2% found it difficult to answer. At the same time, 96% of respondents generally assessed relations between Armenia and France positively, 3% generally negatively, and another 1% found it difficult to answer.
93% generally consider the relations between Armenia and India positively, 89% generally consider the Armenian-American relations positively, 88% generally consider the relations between Armenia and Iran positively. 87% generally assessed the Armenia-EU partnership positively.
At the same time, among those with generally poor relations with Armenia today are Azerbaijan, Turkey, Israel and Russia.
85% generally assessed relations with Azerbaijan negatively, 12% generally positively, another 3% found it difficult to answer. 69% of respondents consider Armenian-Turkish generally negatively, 27% - generally normal, 4% found it difficult to answer. 53% generally assessed the relations between Armenia and Israel negatively, 29% - generally normal, another 18% found it difficult to answer.
66% of respondents generally assessed the relations between the two allies - Armenia and Russia - generally negatively; 31% considered -generally normal; another 2% found it difficult to answer. At the same time, there is an interesting situation regarding Ukraine. 56% generally assessed Armenian- Ukrainian relations positively, 34% generally assessed negatively, and another 10% found it difficult to answer. Georgia and China are also on the list; In general, 82% and 78% respectively consider the relationship with them to be positive.
49% of respondents named Iran as a key economic partner of Armenia, Russia-48% , China -40% , France 34% , Georgia and the USA -33% each, the EU- 32%, Turkey-7%, Ukraine -6%, Azerbaijan- 2%, another 2% found it difficult to answer.
50% of respondents named France as Armenia's key security partner, Iran and the USA - 46% each, Russia- 31%, EU- 28%, China -16%, Georgia- 15%, Ukraine -3%, Turkey and Azerbaijan-2% each, another 6% found it difficult to answer.
At the same time, 86% of respondents named Azerbaijan as the main country making political threats against Armenia. Turkey- 82% , Russia- 40% , Ukraine and the USA -5% each, Georgia -4%, the EU -, Iran and China2% each, France- 1%, another 1% found it difficult to answer. 54% of respondents mentioned Turkey as the main economic threat to Armenia, Russia- 51%, Azerbaijan- 50%, Georgia- 13%.
The survey was conducted on behalf of the International Republican Institute's Center for Insights in Survey Research by Breavis. Data was collected via telephone (CATI) administered interviews throughout Armenia between December 13 and December 22, 2023. The sample consisted of 1,508 permanent residents of Armenia 18 and older. The achieved sample was weighted for age, gender, and community type according to the 2023 Yearbook of the Statistical Committee of Armenia, as well as to the average of IRI CATI polls in Armenia for education. The margin of error does not exceed plus or minus 2.5 percentage points for the full sample. The response rate was 28%.respondents expressed the belief that it is in the right direction, another 39% said it is in the wrong direction, and another 12% found it difficult to answer.
