ArmInfo. Recent developments surrounding Armenia, in the context of ongoing instability in our region and the ongoing large-scale international conflict, have exacerbated existing risks to the independence, security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia. This is stated in the statement "Ex oriente" of the Union of Armenian Orientalists.
"We firmly believe that Armenia needs a balanced, well-calculated and rational foreign policy based on our own interests, and not on the interests of other countries, be it in the East or in the West. It would be an unacceptable and fatal mistake to involve Armenia in an ongoing international conflict between world powers.
Building relationships with new partners should not be done at the expense of Armenia's historical partners and existing allies. The Armenian authorities must act in such a way as to combine the interests of Armenia and other countries, and under no circumstances succumb to the temptation to obtain imaginary dividends through the conflict of these interests. Vague and confrontational statements regarding interstate relations will not contribute to strengthening the security of Armenia, but will only create additional risks and dangers.
The goal of our diplomacy should be to strengthen existing alliances and acquire new partners, not yet another adversary. The world is at a stage of global conflict, which is intensifying every day, creating unprecedented tension in the international system.
Our region is at the intersection of conflicting interests. In our very dangerous world, the security of the Armenian people requires a rational foreign policy based on wise government decisions that would allow our people to protect their security and vital interests. We bear responsibility to future generations for the preservation of Armenian statehood," the statement says.
