ArmInfo.Sovereignty and territorial integrity are to be respected, in full compliance with public international law and the UN Charter. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Constantinos Kombos who is on an official visit in our country stated on March 7 in Yerevan at a joint press conference with the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Ararat Mirzoyan, regarding the issue of Azerbaijan's occupation of over 200 sq km of Armenian territories.
He noted that, of course, there are omissions in the Charter of the Organization, but nevertheless, there are no other universal rules for coexistence, therefore, there is no alternative to international law and it must be respected.
"It is this idea that needs to be advanced and everything possible must be done to respect what I have said above. In addition, the attention of the international community must be focused on the principle of peaceful resolution of all existing disputes and conflicts. From this point of view, Cyprus is consistent in promoting this principle, since it itself became a victim of aggression and invasion. This July will mark 50 years since Turkey's illegal invasion of Cyprus. We have become a victim of precisely this behavior," the Cypriot minister noted, once again pointing out that there is no alternative to supporting internationally recognized universal rules of coexistence.
In turn, the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry noted that Yerevan has long been working towards ensuring further stability and security mechanisms. In this vein, he recalled the deployment on the territory of the Republic of Armenia of the EU civil mission, which monitors the situation along the border of Armenia with Azerbaijan.
"Since its deployment, this mission has made a significant contribution to stabilizing the situation along the entire perimeter of the border. In this regard, we can only welcome the EU's decision to expand the size of this mission," Mirzoyan summarized.
