According to the Secretary of the RA Security Council, Yerevan informed the Russian Federation about its position in an official letter. Grigoryan emphasized that the Armenian side insists on replacing Russian border guards at the airport with Armenian border troops, who have the appropriate capabilities to exercise control at the checkpoint at Zvartnots airport.
Earlier today, spokesperson of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that No decisions were made by Armenia on the withdrawal of Russian border guards from Yerevan Zvartnots airport, and no one has informed us, through official channels. Speaking during the Knowledge: The First marathon, Peskov emphasized that there have been no decisions on this matter. On February 27, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan said that Russian border guards should leave the Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport, adding that the Armenian side itself will protect the country's borders.
Later, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow had not received any requests from Yerevan regarding the withdrawal of Russian border guards from this airport.
In turn, the secretary of the ruling civil contract faction of the Armenian parliament, Artur Hovhannisyan, said that the ruling political force in Armenia is concerned about the presence of Russian border guards, and discussions are underway on this issue.
