ArmInfo. The South Caucasus is very important for Georgia, which is interested in advancing the process of concluding a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Lasha Darsalia stated at the Third Antalya Diplomacy Forum. He expressed hope that it will be possible to find a solution from which both sides will benefit. At the same time, the Georgian diplomat recalled that Georgia offered the parties its help and support to achieve a peace treaty. "It's obvious to us that we need to maintain existing collaborations rather than letting outside players into our arena," he said.
Speaking about the role of Tbilisi in normalizing relations between Yerevan and Baku, Lasha Darsalia recalled that Georgia had previously come up with an initiative for peaceful good neighborliness and offered support to both countries in terms of holding negotiations. "We see that there are certain difficulties in bilateral negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and therefore we propose to hold trilateral negotiations in our region. We trust both of our neighbors, for this reason Tbilisi supports negotiations and the establishment of peace and stability in the South Caucasus. There is no alternative to peace in our region. Peace must be established," said the Georgian diplomat, pointing to the presence of new opportunities for the South Caucasus in the context of a new concept of global connectivity. In conclusion, he pointed to Georgia's interest in developing strategic ties with Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
