ArmInfo.Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on February 14 that Moscow, within the framework of bilateral contacts with representatives of Azerbaijan, will discuss all cases relating to the destruction of monuments to the heroes and participants of the WWII in Karabakh. She emphasized that as part of the reconciliation process between Baku and Yerevan, the Russian Federation calls on both sides to take care of the cultural and historical heritage and not wage war against monuments.
"We, of course, carefully study all the cases sent, in which there is even a hint of desecration of WWII monuments - this is unacceptable. I'm talking about desecration, no matter where and by whom it is committed, regardless of the level of our relations," she said.
According to her, these are, to a large extent, isolated exceptions for Armenia and Azerbaijan that only confirm "the general rules of caring for our common memory of those years." Zakharova added that it is necessary to create conditions for the formation of an environment of trust and mutual respect, without which peace in the South Caucasus will be difficult to achieve.
