ArmInfo. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide an additional $1 million in assistance to people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh. This became known from the speech of Acting Deputy Director of the USAID Mission in Armenia Matthew Laird at a meeting with refugees from Artsakh.
According to him, 19,300 forcibly displaced persons of Nagorno-Karabakh will receive humanitarian assistance through the USAID-funded Protection, Inclusion, and Empowerment activity implemented by Democracy International. Laird also recalled that since the end of September 2023, the USAID provided over $9,2 million in humanitarian assistance for those affected by the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"These funds are used to ensure that displaced people can overcome the difficulties caused by violence and mass displacement," he said, adding that the US government is committed to helping Armenia so that the country can overcome the challenges posed by Azerbaijan's military actions in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The USAID-funded Protection, Inclusion, and Empowerment activity implemented by Democracy International provides refugees from Artsakh with the necessary humanitarian assistance: hygiene items, warm clothing, food and non-food items and other essential items. It began in December 2023 and will last 6 months. The geography covers Yerevan, Ararat, Kotayk, Lori, Shirak, Syunik and Tavush regions, Armenpress reports.
USAID assistance is provided through a consortium of organizations, which includes Mission Armenia, the Armenian Red Cross Society, the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction Foundation and World Vision International.
