ArmInfo. Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Aykhan Hajizade, responded to the proposal made by Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, during his speech at the event dedicated to the Army Day, addressed to Azerbaijan to sign an agreement on mutual arms control and non-aggression mechanism.
Hajizade assured that the statement of the Armenian Prime Minister is intended to divert attention from the process on the draft bilateral agreement on peace and the establishment of interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Further, Baku expressed dissatisfaction with the Constitution of Armenia, decisions of the Armenian Parliament, etc., and considered Pashinyan's proposal unacceptable. Then Hajizade started "an old song about the main thing," namely about the alleged occupation of Azerbaijani lands.
"Taking into account the abovementioned, and also the fact that, as Prime Minister Pashinyan stated, that his country is pursuing a serious policy of 'militarization', in recent years contracts have been signed for the supply of weapons worth several billion dollars, the development of the military industry, the assertion by Armenia that it is serious refers to the peace process is 'political manipulation'. Such 'biased statements' are an obstacle to the further development and progress of the region based on respect for the norms and principles of international law.
Azerbaijan, in turn, will continue its 'peacemaking and constructive efforts' and expects adequate steps from Armenia not in words, but in deeds," noted the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of this country, which, apparently precisely as part of its 'peace-building efforts' continues to occupy over 200 sq. km of the sovereign territories of Armenia, the entire territory of Artsakh, has been holding Armenian prisoners of war and civilians hostage for 4 years, and at the same time is purchasing hundreds of millions of weapons from Turkey, Israel, Serbia, etc.
