ArmInfo.On January 24, a conference entitled "Preservation of the cultural and spiritual heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh", organized at the initiative of the European Parliament, was held in Brussels. This was reported by the Office of the Mother See of Etchmiadzin.
At the event, the Ambassador of Armenia to Belgium Tigran Balayan and Member of the European Parliament Miriam M. Lexmann made opening remarks.
Director of the Center of the Mother See of Etchmiadzin, Garegin Hambartsumyan, spoke about Azerbaijan's policy of attacking Armenian shrines, destroying historical and cultural values, as well as the urgency of the steps that the international community should take in this direction.
In his report, he called for protecting the cultural and religious heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh, respecting the freedom of religion and belief enshrined in a number of international treaties, as well as providing an opportunity for representatives of the UNESCO assessment mission to visit Nagorno-Karabakh and document the status of cultural monuments.
The conference also featured presentations by: Sneska Quaedvlieg-Mihailovic, Secretary General of the Europa Nostra, a pan-European Federation for Cultural Heritage, Armine Tigranyan, Expert on the cultural heritage of Artsakh at the 'Bnorran' historical and cultural public organization and Pierre d'Argent, professor at the University of Louvain and a guest professor at the University of Leiden, Counsel for Armenia before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
