ArmInfo.Council of Europe human rights experts are examining the protection of rights of the Armenians forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.
The RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport reports that on January 23, CE experts who arrived in Armenia within the framework of the project "Strengthening human rights guarantees for internally displaced persons in Armenia", initiated by the Secretariat of the Council of Europe, received by Deputy Minister Artur Martirosyan. During the meeting, the Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of identifying the educational needs of students from Nagorno-Karabakh and their full integration into the educational process. Presenting the steps taken by the Ministry of Education and Science in this direction, Artur Martirosyan noted that about 17 thousand school-age students are enrolled in public schools of the Republic of Armenia, 900 continue their studies in primary and secondary vocational educational institutions, 1800 in universities. According to the deputy minister, work in this direction is ongoing.
During the meeting, it was also noted that under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Khachatryan, an interdepartmental working group has been created on various issues related to internally displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh, the goal of which is to join efforts in order to find more effective solutions. "Now we are in an active stage of reforms, and during this period of systemic changes, we managed, using flexible approaches, to ensure the right to education of our compatriots - forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh," said Martirosyan.
The Deputy Minister also noted that many teachers who were forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh continue their professional activities in Armenian schools. New approaches are now being developed to ensure the employment of specialists in the field of culture and sports.
Council of Europe human rights experts presented their activities and support opportunities. A number of other issues of mutual interest were discussed at the meeting.
