ArmInfo. Russian-Israeli blogger Alexander Lapshin reacted to footage posted by the Azerbaijani side about the conditions of detention of the military-political leadership of Artsakh, captured in September last year, after another act of aggression against the Armenians.
"I never cease to be amazed at the fantastic infantilism and naivety of many Armenians. Residents of Armenia absolutely do not understand what Azerbaijan is and who the Azerbaijanis are and what the Aliyev regime is. In recent days, Azerbaijanis have circulated photographs of "happy" Armenian prisoners, including Arayik Harutyunyan, David Babayan and others, allegedly reading books in the library, watching TV and even having radiators in the cell (pictured with Arayik). After which many Armenians comment like this: "Everything is fine with them, they are happy with everything, they are like at a resort!" and these idiotic comments collect dozens of likes from other naive fools, who was quoted on Twitter (X) by the French Ambassador to Armenia.
"People, you don't understand that these are staged photographs. I was kept in the Kurdakhany prison in Baku and taken to the library to be photographed for the Aliyev media. The Azerbaijanis gave me a book. They told him to smile, otherwise he would be deprived of walks in the prison yard. Then they took the book from me and returned it to a dirty and smelly cell, where they kept me for the entire seven months.
The cells in reality are much worse; they were taken to the medical building for a photo shoot. There are several elite cells in the medical building, which look exactly like in the photo. There is no heating in ordinary cells, prisoners freeze in winter, sleep under torn Soviet blankets, wearing all the clothes they have. There are no televisions there either, but they took me to a cell in the medical building where there were televisions for photographs.
When I read the nonsense that Armenians write about the "happy" faces of Armenian prisoners, I am simply sick of such Armenians. Regardless of the identity of these people in the photo (many should be tried for treason and bribery), they are really in trouble. Azerbaijan today is no different from the Taliban or ISIS. Absolutely illegal and gangster regime of Aliyev. These prisoners are seriously threatened with torture and death in a Baku prison.
Let me remind you that in this same prison the Azerbaijanis, shouting "Allahu Akbar," beat me half to death, broke my arm, fingers, three ribs, jaw and knocked out my front teeth. This happened about three months after they took a photo of me "happy" with a book in my hands. By its decision dated May 20, 2021, the European Court found Azerbaijan guilty of illegal arrest, cruel torture and attempted murder," Lapshin wrote.
It should be noted that the former commander of the Artsakh Defense Army Levon Mnatsakanyan appeared in the footage for the first time. You can see from the photo that he is not being treated well. In addition, there was no photo of General David Manukyan, Speaker of Parliament David Ishkhanyan and philanthropist Ruben Vardanyan. And the photo of the former head of the Artsakh Foreign Ministry was completely old.
Let us note that the exact number of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages held in Azerbaijani prisons is still not known. Among those held in Azerbaijani captivity are 8 former and current representatives of the military-political leadership of Artsakh. These are former Presidents of Artsakh Arkady Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, former Minister of Foreign Affairs David Babayan, as well as Speaker of Parliament David Ishkhanyan, ex-commander of the Artsakh Defense Army, General Levon Mnatsakanyan, General David Manukyan and ex-Minister of State Ruben Vardanyan.
