ArmInfo. What is happening today with the Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party, Armen Ashotyan, can hardly be called a trial, Hayk Mamijanyan, Head of the opposition parliamentary faction With Honor told reporters on January 8, as he commentied on the court hearing to discuss the issue of changing the preventive measure against Ashotyan.
As Mamijanyan noted, the farce against the deputy chairman of the RPA is the realization of the pathological fears of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, who is taking revenge against one of his most dangerous opponents. This, as Mamijanyan emphasized, is seen not only by international structures, but also by citizens of Armenia.
He refrained from answering the question about expectations from today's court hearing, noting only that given the horror that the figure of Armen Ashotyan brings to Pashinyan, decisions are made far beyond the courthouse, including under the influence of certain alcoholic beverages.
Mamijanyan noted that Pashinyan shows hatred for everything that is connected with the national mentality, including in relation to the Armenian Apostolic Church, which is the most important part of the Armenian society. Immediately after coming to power, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia declared war on the national parties, and now on the AAC, whose leader was denied a New Year's address to the nation. "He wants to eliminate Armenians, Armenian statehood, but on this path he faces several obstacles, one of which are the patriots of the country, the party and the Armenian Apostolic Church," the parliamentarian noted.
Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Armen Ashotyan has been under arrest since June 15. He is accused of committing abuses at the Yerevan State Medical University named after Mkhitar Heratsi. Ashotyan himself does not admit guilt, and considers what is happening to be open and cynical political persecution.
