Director of the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia Kamo Tsutsulyan, at a meeting with Hiroyuki Mori, Resident Representative, Georgia Office at Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), highly appreciated the close cooperation with JICA and thanked for the support for the implementation of various projects.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, Kamo Tsutsulyan noted that since 2004, thanks to cooperation with the Agency, many projects have been implemented aimed at increasing the ability to withstand natural disasters. This includes seismic risk assessment and management planning, landslide disaster management, expansion of the technical capabilities of the service, modernization of assets, exchange of experience and skills of employees, development in which a large number of rescuers have undergone professional training in Japan.
In turn, Mori Hiroyuki noted that the field of disaster prevention is one of the Agency's target areas, and they expect to find new ways of cooperation and continue work at a new level. He stressed that based on the experience and lessons learned from recent catastrophic earthquakes around the world, the Agency is currently reviewing its working methods and plans to develop new approaches to countering natural disasters. In particular, to formulate a new concept for disaster prevention, which will make it possible to more effectively confront current challenges and make it possible to save a large number of lives during natural disasters.
Hiroyuki Mori informed that programs are currently being conducted online to develop earthquake resistance skills at the community level.
As a result of the discussions, the parties agreed to re-clarify the scope of cooperation based on an assessment of the needs for services.
