ArmInfo.Belarus hopes for stable and long-term peace in the South Caucasus. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced at a session of the CSTO Collective Security Council in a narrow format.
"We welcome the progress in resolving the conflict in the South Caucasus. We hope that the steps taken will lay the foundation for sustainable and long-term peace in this region, where friendly peoples- Armenians and Azerbaijanis live. I emphasize: friendly peoples," the President of Belarus said, reports BELTA.
Alexander Lukashenko also touched upon the situation on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border. "I have no doubt that the political wisdom of the presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will (has already become) a decisive contribution to resolving the contradictions between Bishkek and Dushanbe and will allow us to focus on ensuring the security of the external borders of the CSTO in the organization's southern wing," the head of state added.
According to him, Belarus supports the proposal of the President of Tajikistan to pay closer attention to the southern borders of the CSTO.
He also added that the CSTO member states adequately assess the existing challenges and are ready to face them together.
"The very fact that we have gathered at one table suggests that we adequately respond and assess the existing challenges and are ready to confront them together. The fact that some of our partners are stormy both in public statements and in actions of a provocative nature is first of all, their problems. I will say one thing: if there are complaints, then we need to voice them, looking into each other's eyes, and not talk through stuff in the media," said Alexander Lukashenko.
