ArmInfo. Armenia supported the UN General Assembly resolution on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Representatives of 120 countries from 193 UN member states voted in support of the document, with 120 votes in favour, 14 against and 45 abstentions The United States, Israel, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Austria and a number of other countries voted against the resolution.
As the official UN website reports: "The United Nations General Assembly on Friday adopted a resolution calling for an "immediate, durable and sustained humanitarian truce" between Israeli forces and Hamas militants in Gaza. It also demands "continuous, sufficient and unhindered" provision of lifesaving supplies and services for civilians trapped inside the enclave, as news reports suggest Israel has expanded ground operations and intensified its bombing campaign."
The document was proposed by Jordan, which traditionally sides with the Palestinians in the conflict with Israel, and was supported primarily by a group of Arab countries and Russia.
"It marks the first formal response of the United Nations to the escalation of violence in Israel and Palestine since the Hamas terror attacks of 7 October, after the Security Council failed on four occasions to reach consensus on any action," the source notes.
