ArmInfo. Developments show that after the 44-day war in Artsakh, the Armenian authorities are making decisions under strong pressure from new regional players. This was stated at a briefing on September 14 by the head of the "Armenia" opposition faction of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan.
According to him, the authorities are taking two bad political lines, recognizing Artsakh as part of the territory of Azerbaijan and organizing an anti-Russian movement.
Ohanyan pointed out the danger of Yerevan's actions, which with its steps can bring the problem to a clash between major international players in the region. As a positive fact, the former Minister of Defense pointed to the elections of the President of Artsakh and the formation of a new team, which will lead to the highest cultivation of the spirit, which was used to be in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Speaking about the situation on the borders of Armenia, Ohanyan noted that the activities of the military- political leadership of Armenia are not adequate in the current situation on the front line. He criticized the statements of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, made yesterday in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, about the measures being taken to prevent a new war with Azerbaijan. "They don't talk about other methods from the rostrum of parliament," Pashinyan emphasized, which caused dissatisfaction among opposition MPs. According to Ohanyan, the authorities' reticence on security issues actually indicates an inability and incompetence to work with the public to dispel their anxiety and concerns. "When the government says that it cannot disclose details from the rostrum of parliament regarding security measures, this means that it does not know how to work with society. Yesterday's questions and answers to the government once again revealed the common truth - "Where there's a will, there's a way, when there's no will - there are excuses," says Ohanyan.
The ex-minister believes that the Armenian authorities must give a clear assessment of the situation on the front line, discuss all this at various levels: in the General Staff, the Ministry of Defense, in the Security Council, and take measures based on this. According to the head of the faction, the fact that the government's actions are not equivalent to the current situation can be seen from the example of work within the country. Instead of using advanced equipment and using all the potential for engineering and construction work, the authorities are directing this potential to asphalt roads. Ohanyan turned his attention to the bloated police apparatus instead of quickly recruiting army units and strengthening the capabilities of the armed forces. <The authorities are clothing, shoeing and equipping police officers, creating new police special forces. All these preparations had to be carried out primarily in the army, and the entire potential of the country should be directed to strengthening and increasing combat capabilities. This process must go parallel to regular military exercises, not only on the territory of Armenia itself, but also in friendly countries," the parliamentarian said, expressing concern that the endless movements and concentration of equipment by Azerbaijan, the build-up of military potential at one moment could lead to new collision. The ex-minister emphasized that he does not want to frighten the public, but only strives to increase the morale and ability of the army and people to resist.
