ArmInfo. Russia will analyze why Armenia makes decisions to conduct military exercises with the U.S. instead of CSTO. Spokesperson of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov told reporters on September 11, noting that such an analysis will be carried out in dialogue with Yerevan.
"Against the background of how Armenia has not expressed a desire to conduct exercises with the CSTO and now declares a desire to conduct exercises with the Americans - probably for us these are decisions that require a very, very in-depth analysis in order to figure out why exactly Armenia makes such decisions, what goals are being pursued," the Kremlin spokesman said.
He stressed that Moscow will "try to comprehend and understand this." "But in any case, we will do all this in a close, partnership-based dialogue with the Armenian side," Peskov said.
Yesterday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also spoke about the Armenian-American exercises. According to him, Yerevan's actions in light of the exercises are regrettable in Moscow. "There is nothing good in the fact that a NATO country is trying to penetrate the Transcaucasus," said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"We don't see anything good in the fact that an aggressive NATO country is trying to penetrate the Transcaucasus. I don't think this is good for anyone, including Armenia itself. We regret this - the actions of the Armenian leadership," Lavrov said at a press conference following the G20 summit in New Delhi. Earlier, the Armenian Ministry of Defense reported that the Eagle Partner 2023 joint military exercises of Armenia and the United States will be held on Armenian territory from September 11 to 20.
