ArmInfo. It is very important for the Russian side that the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan be constant and stable. Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced on July 28 at a briefing.
According to her, there were many examples in the modern history when a large number of agreements were concluded for the protocol, including those concerning Armenia, which then were not implemented.
In this context, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation pointed to the West's activity in this matter.
"For the Russian side, it is important that the peace treaty be constant and stable. The treaty should ensure a balance of interests between Armenia and Azerbaijan. And this can be achieved on the basis of the consistent implementation of the roadmap for the Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization process. This roadmap is a set of tripartite agreements between the leaders of Russia and Azerbaijan and Armenia in 2020-2022," Zakharova said, adding that with the consent of Yerevan and Baku, the process can be supported based on the UN decision.
As for the mediation efforts of Western countries, as the diplomat noted, it seems that there is a rivalry with Moscow in order to reformat and intercept this entire agenda. < There is a feeling that the West does not care about Armenia and Azerbaijan, about their peaceful coexistence, the main thing is to make a statement about them, to be recorded in history, in opposition to Moscow. Well, if possible, create leverage," Zakharova said, emphasizing that attempts to establish peace in the Transcaucasus can be viable for the West only if they do not have an anti-Russian orientation and do not compete with Moscow's efforts.
