ArmInfo. On June 22-25, Panama hosted the highest meeting of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY World Congress). The event, held every two years, was attended by organizations from about 70 countries, by 300 delegates.
According to the press service of the ARF, at the congress the governing body submits a report, determines the future tasks of the organization and elects a new governing body. On behalf of the ARF Youth, member of the ARF Youth Wing Hasmik Burushyan and IUSY Vice President Sarine Abrahamian took part in the meeting.
The presentation and adoption of resolutions are of paramount importance at the congress. Through the efforts of the ARF, a resolution was adopted in Panama recognizing the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination and condemning the policy of ethnic cleansing pursued by Azerbaijan against the people of Atsakh. The organization called for the immediate opening of the Lachin corridor without any preconditions and an end to the blockade of Artsakh. In addition, an application for full membership in the youth wing of the Republican People's Party of Turkey was rejected, in particular due to the organization's positions regarding the Armenian Genocide, the self-determination of the people of Artsakh, the rights of the Kurdish minority, and Syrian refugees in Turkey. Following the congress, a new chair was elected. As a result, ARF candidate Sarine Abrahamian was re-elected Vice-President of the International Union of Social Youth. Commenting on the congress, Sarine Abrahamian said: "IUSY is an influential platform for promoting our national interests and establishing ties with other political forces. The successes recorded by the ARF Youth at the IUSY general meeting are a signal to continue on national issues in all areas."
The International Union of Socialist Youth is a youth organization that includes over 163 organizations from more than 110 countries, with the ARF being a full member.
