ArmInfo. Since last week, it became known that the first Fashion Week will be held in Armenia, which will bring together more than 20 domestic designers, as well as representatives of the foreign fashion world, experts, specialized media, including Vogue Italy, Wear UK, ELLE Italy, Marie Claire Arabia, Lemile Germany, FAULT Magazine, L'Officiel Italy, Fucking Young! and many others.
Support for an event of this magnitude was provided by GIZ, the UK Government and a number of private partners. The total amount of funding, as the head of the Fashion & Design Chamber of Armenia (FDC), designer Vahan Khachatryan, said during a press conference, amounted to about 60 million drams.
Answering a question from an ArmInfo correspondent, he noted that the Fashion & Design Chamber, initiating such an event, did not associate high expectations with the involvement of local designers. <We thought that the event would last 2 days, and we would be able to hold about 8 shows. However, analyzing the received applications, 2 days turned into Fashion Week, where the collections of 22 Armenian designers will be presented, although we were guided by very strict criteria when choosing participants. "Since our main goal in the Fashion Week is not so much to present designers, but for the first time the industry, the country itself, we have no right to make a mistake," said Khachatryan. With designers who were not included in the main list of declared participants, the Fashion & Design Chamber held separate meetings. In this regard, Khachatryan expressed confidence that the number of participants will obviously increase next year.
The designer also said that before the coronavirus pandemic, the Chamber held 2 consecutive years of fashion forums that contained an educational component and were aimed more at sharing experience with international fashion experts. <And if not for the coronavirus, perhaps we would have continued in this format. Well, because for a long time we were not sure whether our country was ready to host an event of this magnitude, whether we could unite our designers on one site>, Khachatryan shared, expressing gratitude to all the partners who supported the organization of the first Fashion Week in Yerevan.
It should be reminded that Fashion Week (Yerevan Fashion Week) in Yerevan will be held from July 1 to July 6 at the HayArt Cultural Center (7a Mashtots street), within which collections of 20 Armenian designers will be presented. The organizer of such an enchanting event in our country was the Fashion and Design Chamber of Armenia with the financial support of GIZ, the British Government and a number of private companies (<Vremena Goda>, LA BIOSTHETIQUE Paris, Schweppes and ArtLife).
The participants of the Fashion Week will enjoy exquisite shows of collections of recognized designers in the fashion industry, the Fashion Scout Armenia competition for young designers, as well as many other exciting events.
The public will have the opportunity to visit the exhibition halls, where more than 50 Armenian brands are represented, take part in panel discussions and admire unique exhibitions.
The Fashion and Design Chamber plans to make this event an annual event. More than 20 prestigious international fashion publications will also take part in the event, such as Vogue Italy, Wear UK, ELLE Italy, Marie Claire Arabia, Lemile Germany, FAULT Magazine, L'Officiel Italy, Fucking Young! and many others.
