ArmInfo.Armenia's Vice-Premier Tigran Avinyan signed a decision forming a work group to work out a development strategy for Armenia's second largest city, Gyumri.
The group includes Armenia's Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Vache Teteryan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Alfred Kocharyan, and other officials.
A number of development programmes are in progress or have been completed in Gyumri. An extensive road renovation project is being implemented in Gyumri on an EUR 14.6mln EBRD loan. The total worth of the project is EUR 23.84mln, and 37 roads have been renovated.
Last March, construction work was resumed at Gyumri's Friendship Park. The Tourism and Urbanism Foundation (TUF) is implementing the project as the first model of the Public-Private Partnership and socio-economic development in Gyumri. The opening ceremony is scheduled for this autumn. Over $4mln of the $12mln project budget is a share of partners and individual businessmen.
A Kumayri Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve restoration programme is in progress as well. Over 1,600 historical monuments dated 19th and early 20th centuries are located in the area - houses, shops, churches, bridges, public baths, etc.
In 2017, the Gyumri Project Hope (GPH) and Armenia's Central Bank combined their efforts to develop and draft a proposal, "Inclusion of Kumayri historic district."
Armenia's government launched the Kumayri Revival Programme, which was supported by donors. Two main streets, Rustaveli Str. and Shirazi Str was renovated under the programme.
