ArmInfo. In 2018, people were more willing to talk about their participation in the Velvet Revolution, but today the situation has changed significantly. This is evidenced by the results of the "My rating is not a hindrance to your rating" Survey, conducted by the MPG consulting company (Marketing Professional Group - the exclusive representative of the International Association GALLUP in Armenia).
In particular, in 2018, 91% of respondents stated that they were participants in the Revolution, while in 2023 - only 37.4% of respondents admitted this fact.
At the same time, 46.5% of "revolutionaries" noted that they took part in rallies in Yerevan, 42.1% - followed/follow what is happening through the Facebook social platform, 32.8% - participated in rallies in their cities, 28.2% - closed roads, intersections, 13.6% - boycotted the educational process, 12.4% - honked in cars, 12.2%- went on strike at work, 4.4% - took part in the "ladles" action, 2.9% - watched TV broadcasting, 1% - named other ways of participation, 0.2% found it difficult to answer.
However, if in May 2018 the majority of respondents (87.1%) considered closing roads and restricting the movement of vehicles during the Revolution the right decision, then in May this year their number dropped to 44.5%.
At the same time, the survey presents the dynamics of changes in the attitude of citizens towards the Velvet Revolution in a 5-year context. To assess the situation, the experts in the survey used the following time frames: May of the current year, November 2021, May 2019 and September 2018.
In particular, to the question "how did your expectations from the Revolution come true after 5 years?" 52.1% of respondents answered that they did not come true at all (vs. 46% in November 2021, 18.3% in May 2019 and 10.9% in September 2018)), 18% of respondents noted that they were not justified to some extent (vs. 10.2% in November 2021, 11.4% in May 2019 and 7.6% in September 2018) (vs. justified in 21.5% of respondents were justified to a certain extent (vs.t 33.7% in November 2021, 61.4% in May 2019 and 64.2% in September 2018), and 3.8 % of respondents were fully justified (against 3.2% in November 2021, 6.6% in May 2019 and 14.4% in September 2018).
In parallel, in the same time period, the rating of Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of the Velvet Revolution, also deteriorated. If in September 2018 45.4% of respondents assessed his activities completely positively, then in May the credit of trust in the prime minister narrowed to 5.4% (vs. 9.5% in November 2021, 29.9% in May 2019. ). Accordingly, dissatisfaction with Pashinyan's work has increased during this time. In May 2023, 47.1% of respondents noted that they assess his activities extremely negatively, while in September 2018 only 2.4% of respondents were dissatisfied (against 31.3% in November 2021, 5.1% in May 2019).
The survey was conducted through telephone calls to residents of Armenia during the period from May 27-31 of this year. The sample size was 1100, the sampling error was +/- 3%.
