ArmInfo.Azerbaijan, having established a checkpoint on a new road connecting Armenia with Artsakh, continues to put pressure on the Armenian side. Alexander Iskandaryan, director of the Caucasus Institute, announced this during the discussions on this issue.
According to him, Baku uses this practice of pressure by various methods available to it, starting from discourse, declaring that "there is no such entity as Karabakh", and consequently, "there is no such problem". The second way of pressure is to carry out various provocations on the borders of Armenia and Nagorno- Karabakh, various types of armed provocations. Baku also continues to exert diplomatic pressure on Armenia in order to force it to agree with the wordings proposed by it.
The blockade of Nagorno Karabakh, as the expert emphasized, is aimed at ensuring control over goods and people entering or leaving Nagorno Karabakh. In fact, according to Iskandaryan, the checkpoint was de facto established in December last year. <However, then it was not presented as so, the people standing there were acting under some exotic naming. In fact, they were standing there and are standing there under the instructions of the government of Azerbaijan to control the situation, they themselves decide who to let in and who not," the political scientist said:
He stressed that today the checkpoint installation has been formalized, and people with exotic naming will acquire a real one- border guards. Moreover, this checkpoint has moved closer to the territory of Armenia. "I don't know what will happen to the people who are standing near Shushi, whether they will be removed or continue to stand there, but in any case, this is a continuation of the process of pressure in order to achieve new benefits for themselves," the expert said.
