ArmInfo. Those failing to draw lessons from their own history suffer severe punishment. The blockade of the Stepanakert-Goris road is a provocation by Azerbaijan and Turkey against Armenians and Russian peacekeepers, stated Eduard Sharmazanov, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and ex-speaker of Armenia's Parliament.
He recalled his warning that the Russia-NATO confrontation in Ukraine and possible weakening of Russia's positions in the South Caucasus is of benefit only to NATO, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
"On the one hand, Aliyev and Erdogan will take advantage of Russia's 'busywork' in Ukraine. On the other hand, they will be making use of the anti-Russian propaganda by the antinational circles in Armenia.
"Turkey and Azerbaijan have obviously failed to 'digest' Russian peacekeepers' presence in Artsakh, while the West cannot put up with the Russian military base in Armenia. Turkey and NATO are sparing no effort to strip Armenia of its security guarantor, Russia, seeking to demonize Russian and accuse Russians of a new disaster," Mr Sharmazanov said.
The reality is being distorted by the claims that "we are going to live a prosperous life if Russian go away." However, the fact is that "Nikol's regime has been stirring up anti-Russian sentiments since 2018. On October 19, 2020, they rejected Putin's proposals for ending the war. Most of the Artsakh people had left before the Russian peacekeepers arrived. The enemy intended to capture the whole of Artsakh and Syunik. And it was only the Russian peacekeepers' presence that prevented Turks from implementing their fiendish plan," Mr Sharmazanov said.
And NATO and Azerbaijan are seeking a second front making use of Russia's being "bogged down in" Ukraine.
"Russia's possible failure would be an end to both Artsakh and Armenia. Regrettably, Nikol's regime is bowing down to Turks and rejecting military aid by the CSTO, in fact, by Russia.
"We have been thinking so for 100 years and so we had to welcome a Turk in Yerevan and record a decline of our statehood. At that rime Armenia was saved only due to Sovietization. Those failing to draw lessons from their own history suffer severe punishment," Mr Sharmazanov wrote.
