ArmInfo. There is no need to fix the provision of the impossibility of Artsakh being a part of Azerbaijan in the draft of the peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku. On October 14, after the end of the meeting with the delegation of Artsakh, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan stated this to journalists.
According to him, Armenia has never put forward territorial demands on Azerbaijan, and introducing the issue of territories will complicate negotiations on the expected conclusion of a peace treaty. The speaker emphasized that Yerevan offers Stepanakert what it has always offered: Artsakh should be involved in all discussions, in which Armenia should also be present to the maximum extent. Moreover, the negotiation process has not yet been completed. "There were discussed options, according to which Artsakh would independently negotiate with Azerbaijan, for which it was planned to use the appropriate mechanisms, but Armenia does not agree with this. What will happen next, the negotiations will show. One thing is clear: we will not leave our compatriots in Artsakh alone," the speaker said.
He added that in the course of meetings with Moscow, he constantly raised the question of the reaction of the Russian side to what is happening in the region. "We wanted to get a clear answer to the question of whether the Russian Federation is ready to take concrete steps in our region. The issue of Artsakh was also raised, but in the context of general regional security. The Russian side assured us that it would step up efforts in this direction. So, let's see," the speaker stressed, adding that Yerevan expects Moscow to become more involved in regional processes, agreeing to all formats without exception. As Simonyan added another question is that Azerbaijan has not yet signed the mandate of Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh, and he would like to know the reaction of the Russian side to this fact. As Simonyan added, it is another matter that Azerbaijan has not yet signed the mandate of Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh, and he would like to know the reaction of the Russian side to this fact.
The speaker also recalled his criticism of the CSTO, from which "sharp actions are expected in Yerevan. Moreover, fighting continues on the borders, our guys are dying", the head of parliament noted, adding at the same time that the Armenian side is concerned that the CSTO may withdraw from the region altogether. "There are concerns about the withdrawal of CSTO from the region. Speaking of Armenia's withdrawal from the CSTO, it is necessary to understand whether this also applies to the withdrawal of CSTO from the region," he said.
According to Simonyan, Armenia does not mind if representatives of the Russian Federation and the CSTO begin monitoring the situation on the border with Azerbaijan. "Let them come and stand along the border, see who is inciting, violating the ceasefire," he added.
