ArmInfo. This National Assembly is the most disgraceful Parliament in independent Armenia, with complete absence of national interests because of the ruling majority, Ishkhan Saghatelyan, a member of the opposition faction Armenia, stated at a discussion on 'Armenia's real agenda' organized by the Armenia and With Honor factions.
In this context, the opposition MP stated that this convention should be different from the previous ones due to being a more national, with efforts to lead the country out of the crisis it is facing in the wake of Azerbaijan's aggression. In fact, however, the show is going on in Armenia's Parliament, while the political forces concerned over the country's destiny are seeking a way out.
In commenting on the opposition forces' decision to boycott the Parliament's work, Mr Saghatelyan stressed that Armenia's real and priority agenda is ensuring security of Armenia and Artsakh.
"Our citizens mandated us to defend this agenda. Armenia's incumbent authorities and their parliamentary majority are working to create new threats to us. Armenia's present-day Parliament is all but defense of Armenia's interests," Mr Saghatelyan said.
He is accusing the authorities of being unwilling to condemn the so-called 'Shushi declaration' signed by Azerbaijan and Turkey last year. The ruling majority also refused to participate in the opposition-proposed meeting that would have approved a statement on redlines. Specifically, Armenia was to have stated that Artsakh could never be part of Azerbaijan.
"So they should be allowed to serve the enemy's interest. The international community must see and realize that the Armenian people is the master in its homeland, and the Civil Contract party is alone in selling Artsakh. We must not only turn over this disgraceful page, but also open a new page of revival for our people. We are sure we have the potential to build up a state of new quality in Armenia, Artsakh and Diaspora. So we need a new captain and a new course. So a way out of the present situation is forming a new government, presenting and implementing a plan of salvation in line with Armenia's security challenges," Mr Saghatelyan said.
