ArmInfo.Serious changes in the situation around Ukraine require the Russian Federation to clearly define with whom Moscow intends to work in Armenia. Russian expert on the Caucasus Andrei Areshev expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
" It is known that the problems related to the Prime Minister of Armenia Pashinyan arose not yesterday. However, I am not at all inclined to believe that Moscow will openly interfere in internal political developments in Armenia. It seems necessary for the Russian Federation to work with the entire political spectrum and organizations. I think we should put aside our wrong practice of working exclusively with the country's authorities, not only in the case of Armenia, but also in the case of any other country. This policy has already demonstrated its ineffectiveness, both in the case of Ukraine and in the case of other countries," he said.
In this light, Areshev forecasts Moscow's expectantly neutral rather than active stance on the protests in Armenia. He considers it unlikely that Russia will openly support the opposition or the authorities, considering that it will act according to the situation.
In general, the expert considers the developments taking place in Armenia quite expected, especially in the light of the almost unceasing struggle over the past four years between the ruling force and the opposition. According to the expert, the head of government, in turn, with his rash statements and actions did everything in the direction of destroying his own post-revolutionary rating. And according to Areshev, as of today, the ruling party and the government of Pashinyan, have serious problems, due, among other things, to the failure of the government of many programs in the direction of economic development.
"It is clear that all this together strengthens the resistance movement. And it can already be stated that it has gone beyond the electorate of the "Hayastan "and "I have the Honor" blocs, and various segments of the population are joining it. The authorities, in their turn, apparently, as a result of removing their own supporters from them for many years, continue to rely on public apathy. And in the conditions of the spread of total disinformation, it is extremely difficult to predict today how all this may end tomorrow," Russian expert on the Caucasus summed.
