ArmInfo. Armenia`s authorities are consciously engaging in a process with no chance of victory, Tigran Abrahamyan, ex-advisor for defense to the President of Artsakh and member of the With Honor opposition parliamentary faction, stated as he commented on the nascent process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations.
According to him, the most precarious part of the "half-secret normalization process" is not the negotiator proper.
"No matter whether a person is a good or bad swimmer if such one find himself in the center of a tsunami in the sea. The problem is that Armenia`s authorities are consciously engaging in a process with no chance of victory. Armenia`s government is not only well aware Turkey is launching this process with preconditions, but, well aware of the aftermath, is embarking upon this gamble," Abrahamyan said. He points out the fact that the process is being accompanied by a propaganda campaign aimed at relegating the regional and geopolitical security issues to the background and employing the socio-economic factor. "The most effective way of persuading people. But no prosperity without security," the MP said. In his turn, the ex-vice-speaker of Armenia`s Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov expressed his regret that many people if Armenia`s society have not drawn any lessons.
"Independence is indigestible food for societies enslaved with 30 silver pieces. I have repeatedly stated that his [Nikol Pashinyan`s] re-election will result in Armenia losing its sovereignty and entering on the path of turning into 'Ermenistan' [Turkish name for Armenia]. But who listened to me? A man of genius, Nzhdeh was absolutely right when he said that it is ourselves that are the cause of our disasters," Sharmazanov said. All the problems have been resolved in Armenia and the only thing that remains is to appoint a negotiator for normalization of relations with Turkey, he added with irony.
No matter who is the person to act as Armenia`s special representative, because "Armenia will lose everything with the defeatist prime minister."
"Armenians have been deprived of the larger part of Artsakh, Shushi, Hadrut,, 5,000 lives of heroes, and are being fed with Eurovision scenes instead, with the 'proud' society feeling glad. We may be worthy of it. A wise man once said: 'when you do not appreciate national achievements, you will be severely punished," Sharmazanov said.
On December 18, Vahan Hunanyan, Spokesperson for Armenia`s foreign office, reported that Ruben Rubinyan, Vice-President of the RA National Assembly, had been appointed Armenia`s special representative to the negotiations with Turkey.
Turkey will be representative by Serdar Kilic, a professional diplomat and ex-ambassador of Turkey to the United Sates, who has experience in working for the National Security Service of Turkey. Thus, an experienced Turkish diplomat will negotiate with an inexperienced Armenian official, who came to power due to the velvet revolution. Experts believes the mission Mr Rubinyan, one of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan`s circle, will be executing the premier`s orders and signing all the papers previously agreed on.
