ArmInfo. The results of the trilateral meeting in Brussels indicate the EU's intentions to take small steps towards solving the problems between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Chairman of the party Aram Sargsyan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"The intention of the parties to open a railway connection, recorded in the final statement of President of the European Council Charles Michel, is part of this approach, which, by the way, I have mentioned many times. And in all likelihood, Artsakh will remain an unrecognized formation following the example of Turkish Northern Cyprus for a very long time, "the politician said.
Sargsyan assesses the meeting in Brussels as evidence of the lack of prospects for the West's withdrawal from the South Caucasus. Unless, of course, Armenia suddenly decides to enter a mythical union state with the Russian Federation, which is what the parliamentary opposition is striving for. In his opinion, perfectly realizing the irreversibility of the prospect of a turn of all three states of the South Caucasus to the West, the Russian Federation today is actively putting pressure on Yerevan through Azerbaijan in order to involve Armenia into its structure.
According to the politician, for obvious reasons, Turkey opposes such a prospect, which is an important prerequisite for the need for the absence of mediators in a direct dialogue between Ankara and Yerevan. And perfectly understanding the reasons for the recent appeal of the American President Biden to Erdogan to open the borders with Armenia, Moscow immediately demanded that Yerevan invite itself as a mediator in the Armenian-Turkish relations.
Against this background, Sargsyan assesses another Brussels meeting between Ilham Aliyev and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg as another blow to Moscow's illusory hopes of seeing Azerbaijan, and in the long term Turkey, in the EAEU and even in the CSTO. Based on the complete absence of any corresponding to the Eurasian prospects of political, economic, especially energy interests, neither Azerbaijan nor, especially Turkey, according to the politician's forecasts, will never become members of the EAEU and the CSTO.
"And the fact that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not meet with the Secretary General of the Alliance, unfortunately, testifies to the lack of sovereignty, Armenia's infringement in terms of making independent decisions. Meanwhile, the development of relations with NATO for Armenia will mean preventing a threat to the security of our country and Artsakh from Turkey. That is, what our ally Russia cannot or does not want to provide," the politician summed up.
