ArmInfo. A number of bus routes were have not been served since morning because of a boycott by drivers, reads a statement by Hakob Karapetyan, Spokesman for the Yerevan Municipality.
The drivers are demanding better working conditions and higher wages.
"The Yerevan Municipality is paying net wages to drivers, about AMD 260,000 (about $530), for 15 working days," the statement reads.
According to the information at ArmInfo`s disposal, some of the drivers are demanding a return to the "planning system", with off-the-books fares.
"The Yerevan authorities are determined to implement transport reforms aimed to improve the transport service quality and put an end to corrupt practices. We are consistent in improving the drivers` working conditions. This sabotage is inadmissible and cannot succeed," Mr Karapetyan stated.
The relevant departments of the Yerevan Municipality are taking necessary steps to settle the situation. The Yerevan Municipality is apologizing to citizens for the inconveniences.
