ArmInfo.As part of the peacekeeping operation, the Russian servicemen have focused on the repatriation of POWs, infrastructure projects and other humanitarian tasks, Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff, RF Armed Forces, stated at a briefing attended by foreign military attach‚s.
"Beside monitoring the ceasefire, our peacekeepers have focused their efforts to restore a peaceful life in the region, with humanitarian tasks being successfully accomplished," he said. The main tasks are mine clearance, repatriation of POWs and detained persons, search for bodies, ensuring secure delivery of cargoes and implementation of infrastructure projects.
"Russian armed forces continue carrying out peacekeeping tasks in Nagorno-Karabakh. Over a year ago, the bloody war was stopped and conditions for restoring peace in the region created. To defuse tension and monitor the ceasefire, the Russian peacekeepers organized duties at observation points and patrolling of the peacekeeping operation zone," Gerasimov said.
