ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities' strange behavior interfered with the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. Otherwise, the war would have been averted, Armenia's ex-minister of defense Artak Zakaryan stated at the opposition-organized discussions on "The need for a commission to investigate the outcome of war: post-war restoration."
According to him, none of the sides except for Turkey benefited from that war. "None of the sides benefited from that war except for Turkey. Even Azerbaijan did not want such an outcome as it has actually been colonized by Turkey now. Russia's influence has also increased, and Azerbaijan has actually lost its independence and has to repeat what it is dictated," Zakaryan said. On the other hand, he said, Armenia has found itself alone after the 44-day war. Even those the incumbent authorities hoped for proved to be standing by. However, neither platoon commanders nor corrupt generals or former authorities are to blame, he said.
No Armenian general expected Turkey or Pakistan to be involved in the war. "That required different politico-military calculations. War is, first of all, politics and then military operations and strategic planning and solutions. These ones mixed everything and go on making public statements without any scruples - and unaware of their effect and of the cost to be paid by the people in the future," Zakaryan said.
