The United States and the European Union (EU) actively support the "Peaceful Neighborhood Initiative in the South Caucasus" announced by the Prime Minister of Georgia at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Georgia David Zalkaliani said this after the meeting of the Azerbaijan-Georgian Intergovernmental Economic Commission in Baku.
"We all agree that there is no alternative to long-term peace and stability in the region. Therefore, our initiative is perceived with great approval," said the Georgian minister, quoted by the Azerbaijani media.
Zalkaliani also stressed that several memorandums were signed at the meeting of the commission, which will contribute to long-term peace and the implementation of important infrastructure projects.
Earlier, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, during his speech at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, proposed to world leaders a "peace initiative of the neighborhood" to ensure peace and stability in the Black Sea region. As the Georgian prime minister noted then, Tbilisi is ready to host the first meeting within the framework of the peace initiative. According to him, the new format will help build a dialogue and will be a practical solution to regional issues.
Later, the head of government said that Georgia came up with an initiative to create a platform in Tbilisi for high-level contacts between the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides.
