ArmInfo. On September 6, on the regulated crossing of the Spitak-Vanadzor section, an accident occurred with the participation of a freight train and a car.
According to the press service of the SCR, a Mercedes vehicle, the driver of which grossly violated the traffic rules, drove onto a railway crossing closed by barriers and collided with a train.
By a lucky coincidence, the accident did not cause any casualties, but the driver and his family members (two passengers, including a child) received injuries of varying severity, and the child, after providing first aid from Spitak hospital, was transported to Yerevan for additional examination.
<This is the second accident at level crossings in September and the 13th since the beginning of the year. All accidents occurred due to gross violations of traffic rules by drivers. It should be noted that in the current year, the growth of road accidents is noted not only on unauthorized, but also on legal crossings. Moreover, the number of accidents increases during the daytime.
The SCR annually invests funds in improving the safety at railway crossings, carries out preventive work among the population and cooperates with the RA Police in the prevention of traffic safety. However, as the accident statistics show, the situation is not improving. The staff on duty at level crossings keeps a record of violators of the rules for crossing the tracks, and this vehicle has previously been seen in violation of these rules.
Currently, accidents at level crossings not only pose a danger to human life and lead to disruptions to the traffic schedule, but also an unprecedented growth in 2021 threatens the functioning of railway transport on certain sections of the railway>, said Deputy General Director-Chief Auditor on the safety of train traffic of the South Caucasus Railway Sergey Harutyunyan. SCR hopes for a speedy recovery of all victims of road accidents, once again urges drivers not to violate traffic rules, while addressing the Traffic Police to apply the most stringent measures to drivers who deliberately violate traffic rules. This will help preserve the life and health of the citizens of the Republic of Armenia.
The South Caucasian Railway CJSC is a 100% subsidiary of the Russian Railways OJSC and carries out concession management of the Armenian railways.
