ArmInfo. Armenia is taking practical steps to develop cooperation with Russia in the defense sector. Minister of Defense of Armenia Arshak Karapetyan stated this in an interview with journalists in Alabino near Moscow "We are planning to acquire quality weapons, new weapons. We refused to acquire old weapons. This is our policy. It is better to have a small amount of weapons, but high quality, in order to be sure that it will work>, said Karapetyan.
At the same time, he added that another task is to start producing our own weapons. "Here we also have support - in the form of opening joint ventures. Let's do it quickly. We must be able to produce our own weapons," said the head of the RA Defense Ministry.
At the same time, he stressed the importance of excluding the presence of intermediaries between the Ministry of Defense and manufacturing companies, Karapetyan stressed. "I think if these three conditions are preserved, we will definitely get a modernized army that meets the requirements of the 21st century," he said, adding that at meetings with representatives of manufacturers in Alabino, Armenian side had not been refused on any issue.
The conversation with the head of the defense department took place on the sidelines of the House of Friendship event on the territory of the Alabino training ground near Moscow, where the participating countries of the International Army Games presented their cultural pavilions.
