ArmInfo. On August 6, the National Assembly of Armenia, on the third attempt, elected the third deputy speaker, the single candidate from the opposition factions, Ishkhan Saghatelyan.
To recall, on August 4, the opposition factions "Hayastan" and "I Have Honor" nominated a single candidate for the post of the third deputy chairman of the National Assembly - Ishkhan Saghatelyan from the opposition "Hayastan" faction (representative of the Supreme Council of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun", who earlier coordinated the protests of Salvation of the Matherland movement"). On August 5, despite the fact that before the vote, Nazeli Baghdasaryan, secretary of the ruling Civil Contract parliamentary faction, assured that the minimum number of votes for electing an opposition deputy speaker would be ensured, both during the first and repeated voting there were not enough votes to elect Saghatelyan. After the repeated voting, the lawmaker of "Hayastan" faction Artsvik Minasyan warned that it is possible to vote an unlimited number of times by the NA rules. Armen Rustamyan, MP from "Hayastan" faction, stressed that the number of votes of opposition factions is limited, and if the ruling party really wants to solve the parliamentary crisis, then it should try to provide the necessary number of votes with its resources. Today 64 lawmakers voted for Saghatelyan's candidacy, 37 against, 2 ballots were declared invalid. Recall that following the results of the early parliamentary elections on June 20, 2021, the National Assembly of the 8th convocation consists of 107 lawmakers. The ruling Civil Contract party is represented by 71 lawmakers, the Hayastan opposition bloc (Armenia - ed. note) received 29 mandates, and the I Have Honor bloc 7 mandates.
