ArmInfo.Acting Defense Minister of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan resigned. This information was confirmed to a number of media in the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, although as of 5:00pm it has not been officially confirmed, neither in the defense department, nor in the government.
At the time of publication of ArmInfo's material, it was not possible to find out the reasons for Harutyunyan's resignation and the specific source confirming this information.
It is also not clear who will exercise Harutyunyan's powers before the appointment of the head of the RA Defense Ministry. As of today Harutyunyan has two deputies - Former police chief of Armenia Alik Sargsyan and a certain Suren Sahakyan. Both came to the defense system in January 2021.
Some media also report that first deputy head of the RA General Staff Arshak Karapetyanwill temporarily take the powers of Vagharshak Harutyunyan, who, possibly, will also head the RA Defense Ministry in the future.
The press service of the RA President confirmed that they had received resignation letter of Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Arshak Karapetyan from their posts. But, on the website of the RA President there are no decrees of the head of state on the dismissal of the abovementioned persons from their posts.
Let us also remind that Vagharshak Harutyunyan became the head of the defense department in November 2020, after the second Karabakh war.
