ArmInfo. The recognition of the Armenian Genocide by US President Joe Biden will be an important step - the United States will once again confirm its approaches not only to the settlement of issues in the region, but also to the extent to which fundamental values and human freedoms are valued in the United States. This was stated on April 24 by Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Avet Adonts.
According to him, it will also serve as an example for other countries of the civilized world, which to this day have not expressed their position on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. When asked what would happen if Biden said "The Ottoman Empire" instead of the word "Turkey", the deputy minister said that "the issue is very sensitive: and he can in no way comment on the position of the US authorities."
Earlier it was reported that the US president may publicly recognize what happened in 1915 as Genocide on the day of remembrance of these events. That was one of his campaign promises. Turkey said this would complicate its relations with the United States. As Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said in an interview with Haberturk, "if the United States wants to worsen relations, the decision remains with them."
