ArmInfo. The Russian language received the status of an official one in Artsakh.
Thus, today the National Assembly of Artsakh, with 27 votes in favor and two abstaining, adopted the corresponding bill, previously initiated by the lawmakers.
To note, the status of the state language, as before, will be assigned only to the Armenian language, while Russian will be given the status of the official language.
As ArmInfo previously reported, according to the draft amendments, literary Armenian and Russian are recognized as the official languages of the NKR in the law "On Language".
The document introduces the obligation, if necessary, to conduct office work in Russian. The authors of the project propose to encourage printed publications in two languages. "The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic encourages the publication of Armenian-Russian publications, press, as well as the creation of Armenian-Russian textbooks, reference books, scientific and methodological and popular science literature," the bill said.
The document comes into force on the tenth day after its official publication.
