ArmInfo. It was Initially obvious, that the appointment of Argishti Kyaramyan as director of the National Security Service was purely political in nature. Director of the Caucasus Institute, political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan, expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"I will not talk about the specific reasons that led to his dismissal - conspiracy theory is not my strong point. However, structurally, conceptually, the situation is, in general, quite understandable. Kyaramyan was appointed to such a responsible post at the age of 29, when before he has nothing going for him. It was also obvious that this appointment was due to the departure of the relevant people from the NSS, notably, both before and after his appointment, "he stressed.
On October 8, the President of Armenia signed a decree on the resignation of Argishti Kyaramyan from the post of Director of the National Security Service. Kyaramian's deputy Mikayel Hambardzumyan has been appointed acting director of the NSS.
In this light, the political scientist is not surprised that now, during the war, the director of the NSS with a similar background is faced with problems. Including within the department headed by him. "The NSS is a conservative body and therefore treats outsiders badly. Especially when there is a war, and it is especially important that such a department is headed by a person appointed not for political preferences and priorities, but on the basis of his own competence," he stressed.
"In any case, it is obvious that this is far from the first appointment of this kind. We see how people appear in the government offices who are nothing like those who appeared there 2 years ago, after the velvet revolution. I call this a natural choice, or selection. Accordingly, I do not think that Kyaramyan's resignation was due to external influence. The people you are hinting at do not care at all about individual heads of structures in Armenia," Iskandaryan summed up.
