ArmInfo. The Israeli government is aware of Ankara's activities in buying property in the Armenian quarter of Jerusalem, Israeli public figure, publicist Avigdor Eskin expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
Information appeared in the media according to which recently the Turks have been actively buying up real estate, houses and various buildings in the Armenian quarter of Jerusalem. Moreover, all this is presented as purely private initiatives. In reality, buying up Armenian real estate in Jerusalem seems to be a manifestation of Ankara's geopolitical strategy.
"Turkey is trying to restore its rights to some real estate properties that it owned a hundred years ago. In addition, Ankara is actively working in the Arab sector, awakening radical sentiments there in the spirit of the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist organization. Usually, Israel acts to prevent Turkish expansion away from the press and the media. But this time, Ankara had to be made clear that we would not put up with its actions, "he stressed.
Eskin noted that three and a half months ago, information about Turkish activities in the Armenian quarter was published through The Jewish Press by a responsible and knowledgeable person, a former Israeli military intelligence officer. The Israeli expert assesses this publication as a warning to the Turkish side, as well as an invitation to Armenia to cooperate in this matter.
"Yerevan has an impact on the Armenian Diaspora. Israel will welcome the Armenian" soft power "to prevent the sale of real estate to Turks by Armenians living in the Old City. Here is an example of the complete coincidence of the interests of Yerevan and Jerusalem. Let's hope that the range of subjects on which we can interact will expand, " Eskin concluded.
The Jerusalem Armenian Quarter is the oldest Armenian Diaspora in the world. The Jerusalem Patriarchate of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the churches of St. Marcos and St. Gevorg, the Surb Targmanchats school, the Armenian cemetery and the garden are located on its territory.
