ArmInfo. Nobody talked about free treatment of oncological diseases; the state assumes only payment for operations. Minister of Healthcare of Armenia Arsen Torosyan stated this on March 11 at a meeting of the commission for the protection of human rights and public affairs.
He noted that previously the state paid only 20% of the cost of the operation, and the patient himself paid the rest. This year, an additional 700 million drams were allocated from the Armenian budget for treatment of oncological diseases, in addition to last year's 1.1 billion about 80% of the cost of the operation, now this amount is paid by the state instead, "Torosyan stressed.
The Minister of Healthcare also noted that co-payment is still relevant today in the field of chemotherapy, radiation therapy and other methods of treating cancer. "Well, in the near future, free treatment of oncology is out of the question. However, it is possible that in the future, when funding for the health sector increases, it will be possible to consider withdrawing the co-payment from some other methods of treating oncology," Torosyan said.
Until then, 200 million, which are allocated to pay for radiation therapy with linear accelerators, will be enough only for the treatment of 200-300 patients per year, while there are a lot more in need of this therapy - about 5000-6000 people.
Torosyan also said that chemotherapy for children with oncological diseases will be free of charge. But chemotherapy drugs will have to be bought by patients or their relatives.
